Fire Investigation

The Miami Valley Fire District conducts fire investigations on every fire.  This effort is established partly because of the Ohio Revised Code that requires Fire Chief to find the origin and cause of all fires. Miami Valley Fire District has several fire investigators on staff around the clock that work with the fire suppression crews and the Fire Chiefs on duty. Currently MVFD has a CFI (Certified Fire Investigator)  Certified By The International Association of Fire Investigators (IAAI) on staff which is the highest level of training that is available internationally. The district also has a CVFI Certified Vehicle Fire Investigator who is on staff available 24 hours a day. We also have several other trained fire investigators working towards a  Certification.   When necessary, the Fire Marshal may utilize the expertise of mutual aid fire investigators, members of the Ohio State Fire Marshal’s Office or agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.

Investigators go through hundreds of hours of training to gain certification.   They also attend 30 to 50 hours a year continuing education to maintain their certifications.
