The Miami Valley Fire District, Montgomery County, Ohio (population 50,000) is accepting Lateral Entry applications for the position of Firefighter/Paramedic.
Minimum qualifications include high school diploma or equivalent, minimum one-year full-time experience, certified as a State of Ohio Level II firefighter, certified as a State of Ohio Paramedic and have a valid Ohio driver’s license. No CPAT or NTN testing required.
Base pay range is $56,930 to $81,070 annually with an excellent benefits package. Starting rate of pay is dependent upon experience and at the Fire Chief’s discretion.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Firefighter/Paramedic shall perform the following duties pursuant to the direction of the Lieutenant or Battalion Chief:
- Firefighting activities including driving fire apparatus, operating pumps and related equipment, laying of hose lines, and performing fire combat, containment and extinguishment tasks.
- Emergency medical services including administering first aid, CPR, medication, and other life saving procedures as required.
- Perform salvage operations.
- Receive fire and emergency medical alarms.
- Operate radio and other communication equipment.
- Inspection of buildings, hydrants, and other structures in fire prevention programs.
- Participate in fire drills, attends classes in firefighting, emergency medical, hazardous material, and related subjects.
- Maintain fire equipment, apparatus, and facilities.
- Perform minor repairs.
- Perform general maintenance work in the upkeep of fire facilities and equipment; clean and wash walls and floors; care fore grounds around station; make minor repairs; wash, hang, and dry hose; wash, clean, polish maintain and test apparatus and equipment.
- Assist in developing plans for special assignments such as emergency preparedness, hazardous communications, training programs, firefighting, hazardous materials, and emergency medical activities.
- Present programs to the community on safety, medical and fire prevention topics.
Required Minimum Qualifications (*)
- Possess a valid State of Ohio driver's license.
- Possess an Ohio Paramedic Certification.
- Possess an Ohio 240 hour Firefighter Certification.
- Possess an Ohio Fire Safety Inspector Certification.
- No felony convictions or disqualifying criminal history.
- Ability to read and write the English language.
*Certifications must be maintained over the course of employment as a condition of employment within this classification.

Candidate Physical Ability Testing (CPAT). CPAT was developed to create a fair method allowing fire departments to obtain a diverse pool of candidates who are physically capable of performing the tasks required. The CPAT test will be administered through the Miami Valley Ohio Fire/EMS Alliance.
Candidates will take a written test through the National Testing Network.
Candidates will interview with the Fire Chief or their designee.
Candidates will go through a physical exam by a medical doctor.
Candidates will submit finger prints as part of a background check and verification process.
Candidates will take a polygraph test.
Candidates will go through a psychological evaluation.
